It is believed that originally the land was known as Tuipra ,a land adjoining the waters. In days of yore the boundaries of Tripura extended up to the Bay of Bengal when it’s rulers held away from the Garo Hills to Arakan.

 

Lying approximately between 22056’nd 24032’ north latitudes and between 910 0’and 92020’ East longitudes, Tripura is bounded on the north, west, south-east by the international boundary of Bangladesh. In the East, it has common boundary with Assam and Mizoram and thus the geographical continuity with the Indian main land is maintained.

 

The history of Tripura as an administrative unit dates back to days of the Rajas, when the territory was a native state. Tripura became an Independent administrative unit under the Maharajas even during the British rule.  Later on its accession to India was complete on October 15 , 1949.

 

She is rich in the flora and the fauna. The flora comprises of about 1600 taxa distributed over 193 families also about 874 genera of higher plants.

 

The forests and hill ranges of Tripura are in close continuities with the Chittagong Hill tracts and the hills and Southern Assam. The fauna of Tripura bears a close resemblance to the adjoining areas.

 

Ethnic diversity and historical monuments have been attracting people from outside in the resent times. It is observed that once Tripura had link with the silk route. Now the nepics.com dedicates the state for the worldwide connectivity.
